UTC Synchronized Signal Generation for Synchrophasors and Sampled Values Measurements

This article describes two methods and circuits for generation of a signal synchronized to the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) time scale. The is used as sampling clock synchrophasor Sampled Values generation. Both use PPS (Pulse Per Second) pulse synchronization signal. In first method, procedure implemented entirely in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) device. second method uses microcontroller Temperature Compensated Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator (TCVCXO). common feature presented that they are cost effective minimal number components. paper presents implementation details both well measurement results, which show accuracy signals procedures makes them suitable synchrophasors sampled values measurements.
